Purple Heart and Cherry Wood U.S. Postal Bank
Dimensions -- 7 inches tall, 4 1/2 inches deep and 4 inches wide
This beautiful rare wood bank is made primarily from solid Purple Heart wood. It also has Cherry wood on the sides. The dark tint to this purple wood will turn to a dark brown with age and sunlight. The wood grain is in an up and down pattern.
There is labor intensive work done on the finish. I achieve this finish through different sanding processes from 60 grit sanding to 600 grit sanding. I then steel wool the grain to achieve a super slick feel to the grain and sheen to the wood. Finish - Hand Rub with oil and urethane. Edges are squared.
The construction of the boxes themselves is rabbit joint and glued.
They are antique in nature - U.S. Postal Service Door taken out of service and is roughly 40 - 50 years old. The door is a #1 Corban P85 key lock; combination K3, U2 - lock box # 3909.
