Babinga Wood U.S. Postal Bank
Dimensions -- 7 inches tall, 4 1/2 inches deep and 4 inches wide
This dark rare wood bank is made from solid Babinga wood which makes a very bold statement. This reddish tinted wood has a cut design in an up and down very bold grain pattern.
There is labor intensive work done on the finish. I achieve this finish through different sanding processes from 60 grit sanding to 600 grit sanding. I then steel wool the grain to achieve a super slick feel to the grain and sheen to the wood. Finish - Hand Rub with oil and urethane. Edges are squared.
The construction of the boxes themselves is rabbit joint and glued.
They are antique in nature - U.S. Postal Service Door taken out of service and is roughly 40 - 50 years old. The door is a #1 Corban P85 key lock; combination Fl, T - lock box # 4555.
